Ketamine Infusion Therapy as supportive treatment for Substance Use Disorder and Alcohol Use Disorder
Follow Your Doctors Instructions
Sadly, while Perry was being formally supported with ketamine infusions at a ketamine infusion center, the amount of ketamine in his body at the time of his death was not consistent with his treatments. It must instead have been related to ketamine ingested from another source. While we can speculate about where it came from, we do know for sure that his death was not a direct result of any ketamine infusion treatment he had received in the preceding weeks.
Trusted Source
Ketamine has the potential to be very supportive and beneficial for patients being treated for both SUD/AUD. However, due to ketamine’s availability from both mail order treatment platforms as well as from illicit sources, patients with SUD/AUD are very vulnerable to obtaining additional ketamine outside of their sanctioned clinical use. This can put them at heightened risk for adverse and tragic outcomes.
Mental health conditions like depression and anxiety frequently coexist with SUD/AUD in the same patient. We always encourage patients to abstain from use of alcohol, marijuana, and other substance use during their infusion series unless there is suspicion of SUD or AUD. Suddenly stopping some of these substances, particularly alcohol, can be dangerous for those with certain levels of chronic use. For this reason, it’s important to be honest with your provider about your substance use at the time of your intake.
Understandable Responses to Trauma
At Frequency Healing Clinic, our philosophy around these and other problems is largely informed by the work of Dr. Gabor Maté, an expert in trauma, addiction, and the mind body connection as it relates to disease. We believe that all problems with addiction are understandable responses to trauma. Dr. Maté is often quoted saying “The question is not why the addiction, but why the pain.” As such, these issues always warrant a universally compassionate approach. This philosophy informs all of our ketamine treatment protocols, Compassion Coaching, and Health & Wellness Coaching methods.
While not all ketamine clinics will treat SUD/AUD, at Frequency Healing Clinic we will partner with you and your treatment team as you go through recovery. We are always interested in collaborating with other members of your health team. In the case of concurrent treatment for SUD/AUD, we will communicate with your recovery team to build your treatment plan. Together, we will agree on a specific contract to keep you safe and optimize your recovery while you undergo ketamine treatment. We can also support you in other ways in your recovery with Safe & Sound Protocol, Compassion Coaching and Health & Wellness Coaching.
